HE-FE Network

Convenor:
Dr Jill Jameson, Director of Research and Enterprise, University of Greenwich
Email: j.jameson@gre.ac.uk

The Society for Research in Higher Education (SRHE) HE-FE Network is a national research network convened by Jill Jameson. The network meets several times a year in London, Sheffield and other selected venues to debate recent research items of interest in higher and further education.

A moodle web-based information site is currently being set up to accommodate work for the SRHE HE-FE Network. This is at Greenwich: http://moodlelams.cms.gre.ac.uk/

The HE-FE Network is situated under 'Education and Training' courses: all users are welcome to log in with the email address of their choice.

With thanks to Professor Gareth Parry

During the year 2007-08, Professor Gareth Parry of Sheffield University, who has for many years acted as Co-Convenor of the SRHE HE-FE Network, informed SRHE that he sadly needed to withdraw from this duty, in view of important work demands elsewhere. We thank Gareth for his many years of support to the network and hope to invite him back one day as a presenter to the HE-FE network to discuss his research with SRHE network colleagues.

Events increase planned for 2009

During 2008, the network recruited a number of new members whose work is focused on higher and further education research and/or HE in FE and/or FE from an HE perspective. A further expansion in network numbers and an increase in events held by the network is planned for 2009, with an additional focus on holding a variety of research seminars relating to HE-FE research in specific subject areas, for example on leadership and management, literacy, e-learning and other fields in which there is a high level of HE-FE activity and interest nationally.

Forthcoming events and meetings

A number of seminar events relevant to higher and further education research will be held in 2008-09 to which SRHE HE-FE network members will be invited, in a joint arrangement with the Learning and Skills Research Network London and South East (LSRN LSE). The first of these will be held at the University of Greenwich on Tuesday, 21st October, 2008 at 5.00-8.00 pm, with a seminar presentation by Professor Yiannis Gabriel of Royal Holloway, University of London on ‘Organisational Storytelling Research’ in the University of London Avery Hill site at Mansion House, Bexley Road, SE9 2PQ. The SRHE HE-FE Network will convene again in January, 2009 in the SRHE in central London for a presentation and discussion on New Developments in Literacy Research in HE-FE.
