Network event at the SRHE annual conference

Wednesday, 15 December 2010

Delegates from five continents, including UK-based researchers of overseas or international issues in higher education, met to share their interests and exchange news – and email addresses! The highlight of the event was an excellent invited presentation from one of the network’s early career researchers. Andrew Gunn, doctoral student at the University of Leeds, UK, spoke on Balancing International Opportunities with National Duties: University Identities, Globalisation and the Nation State. The presentation, which was very well received, explored the potential conflicts of interest and issues of accountability as universities seek to be transnational corporations within their own right, yet continue to have a relationship with the nation state.
